Red Ink Writing &
Editing can help you shape and re-shape the messages you’ve already
prepared for your customers. Do you have a web site? Ever send direct-mail
advertising pieces? Hand out a brochure or pamphlet? Every one of these
bits and pieces of media shape and transform your customer’s concept
of you and your product. Don’t let a small mistake leave a big impression—don’t
give customers a reason not to select you.
Editorial Philosophy
Having your work edited can be a very scary thing, especially if you’re not used to it. And that’s the case for many writers. They think editors exist to criticize, to nitpick, to find fault.
At Red Ink Writing & Editing, this is not the case.
Our job—our only job as editors—is to make sure you get to tell your story, in your voice. Our job is to make sure your voice doesn’t get in the way of your story. And that’s it.
We work with different degrees of editing, which help define what you, the writer, want us to do to help your text be as good as it can be.
Developmental Editing
We’ll work with you to improve your manuscript, helping you with character development, plot points, avoiding cliches (like having the deus come ex machina), and shaping your story into a cohesive whole.
Copy/Line Editing
Your story is down on paper (or a computer facsimile thereof). Now we edit to make sure your story's details make sense, and that your voice is clear and strong, but not hindering your story.
Proofreading
Your manuscript has been written, edited, revised (and repeat—always repeat). It might even be typeset, and you could be holding your clean, lovely galleys in your hands. Now’s the time for one last pass, to make certain there aren’t any surly "surely"s, any public "pubic"s, your "you’re"s, or any other typo that stops a reader’s progress.
